The Potlights Have Landed

So I ended up removing the false ceiling in my kitchen along with the 8 tube lights that were behind it. I then placed 10 3" potlights in the original (drywall) ceiling. I found out later that the potlights that I had purchased where the cheap kind.

There are apparently two ways for a 'renovation' potlight to hold itself into the ceiling.
1 - Using springs that atomatically open up when the potlight is shoved into position (the ones I bought and installed)
2 - Using a wing/flange system that expands via a tightened screw hidden on the inside of the potlight housing

Hehe, Expanding Spray Insulation Foam Is FUN!

So I got to drill make break a 4" diameter hole in the outside (brick) wall of my house on Saturday :D

I did it so that we can vent the fume hood, that sits above the kitchen oven, outside; as opposed to trying to badly filter the food smells through a carbon filter and back into the house.

Neato Trick

So my friend Ravi is a fashion photographer and he told me about a neat trick he did with a photo of his. He took a color image and made almost everything black&white; except for what he wanted the eye drawn to.

Hehe, so now I decided to mess around with photoshop and see what I could come up with :D

So I took a picture of my niece Anum at (my sister Reema's friend) Shermeen's wedding and turned it into this.

Then, I took a picture of Shermeen at her own wedding and turned it into this.

And finally, I took a picture of my sister Saher (with Anum) at Shermeen's wedding and turned it into this.

Wicked, eh?

Here are the steps to what I did:
1 - Open image in photoshop (duh!).
2 - Create a new layer and copy the 'background' photo into the new layer
3 - Desaturate the top layer (make it B&W)
4 - Add a Layer Mask to the top layer
5 - 'Paint' on the layer mask wherever you want the colored image below the B&W layer to show through
6 - If you're reading this, you're an idiot for thinking there's a sixth step :P

Crazy Wicked Drill Bit

Now you're thinking 'what's so special about a drill bit?'. And I must confess, I would have thought that myself just a couple of days ago. But now I know about the super cool D’VersiBIT® System! And, no, I'm not getting paid for this poduct plug :P

Imagine this if you will ... a 54" long flexible drill bit (4" cutting head + 50" flexible steel shaft). Don't believe me? Well then prepare to be amazed! ...

I'm Worthy of Theft

So I was going through my most recent Credit Card statement when I came across a charge of $57 made on August 9th around 2:30pm in Toronto for 'Prepaid VOX'. Now, I think to myself 'that's odd', so I called up VISA to ask them about the charge.

It turns out that 'Prepaid VOX' is a prepaid calling card thingy for cellular phones. Now, I know for a fact that I don't use prepaid minutes on my cell; I have a family plan with Rogers between my and my mother's cell phones. I told this to the person at VISA, so she referred me to someone else.

3rd Annual MamboMosaic and UnitedSalseros Fundraiser

So I went to the MamboMosaic and UnitedSalseros fundraiser last night at 6 Degrees nightclub (used to be Berlin nightclub - 2335 Younge St.). Now, normally I wouldn't really have much to say about a salsa night out. I mean, how many times can you say 'I danced with many beautiful women!'? But last night was different ;)

2006 Fan Expo Canada!

So I went to the 2006 Fan Expo on Friday with my buddies Terry and Tom :D It was so much fun!

Lets see .... I got to meet and fall in love with and take a picture with Morena Baccarin!! (the actress who played 'Inara Serra' on Firefly & Serenity)

Oh! And I got to meet Ryan Sohmer of Least I Could Do fame :D And of course, I got a picture with him and his trusty illustrator Lar Desouza :D:D

Slow Month (At Least Online ;)

Ok, so I haven't really been doing any new posts for the past month ... So sue me :P

First, I went to a wedding in Ottawa for my good friend Mohsin and his blushing bride Nida. I've got plenty of pictures of that event here. Hehe, I'm probably not going to see Mohsin again for a year ... now that he's got that whole wedded bliss thing happening.
